FSSC 22000: An overview of the requirements- Management Responsibility

FSSC 22000: Management Responsibility
The standard requires that top management is involved with and committed to the food safety management system, recognizing that without top management commitment it would be unlikely that the FSMS would get the resources and support needed to ensure that it is an effective system. As part of this commitment management is required to:

  • Create a food safety team
  • Set a food safety policy and support it with goals and objectives
  • Provide resources
  • Assign responsibilities
  • Create communication systems
  • Hold management reviews of the system
  • Work to continually improve the system

As you start your project, a good place to begin is to train the entire management team on both the importance and benefits of Registration to the standard and the requirements of the standard. Build commitment by building an understanding of what the system is and why it is important to your organization.
