SQF Certification
SQF Certification Key Points:
SQF is a food safety management system certification scheme. This means that in order to be certified, a company must build a food safety management system that includes all the required processes and requirements defined in the SQF Code.
SQF is a HACCP based system. A company with SQF Certification will have a comprehensive Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety plan that follows the CODEX Alimentarius Commission HACCP Principles.
Organizations from many different sectors of the food industry can achieve certification by applying the applicable modules or modules of the code.
SQF Certification is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative, GFSI. This means that the certification is well recognized worldwide. Other GFSI recognized schemes include FSSC 22000, BRC and IFS.

Why SQF?
In today’s global marketplace it is getting more and more challenging to ensure food safety all along the food chain. Retailers and large food processors and manufacturers are depending on their suppliers to provide safe products and ingredients. This is driving the demand for food safety certification programs to help instill the confidence organization need to have in their suppliers.
If you have been asked to obtain certification, SQF is one of your choices. Many customers are looking for a certification that is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and SQF is one of those recognized standards. (See Others)
SQF is well accepted throughout the food industry. Some features of SQF certification include the three levels of certification to choose from, a number of modules to choose from for the appropriate GMPs for your industry segment, a scored certification audit, and the incorporation of unannounced audits to be implemented in 2014.
